Description
John Hughes: 5-movie Collection
Collection of five 1980s comedies written by John Hughes. In 'Pretty in Pink' (1986) Andie Walsh (Molly Ringwald) is a poor girl with lots of spirit, who is obsessed with rich kid Blane McDonough (Andrew McCarthy). In the face of adversity, love cuts across the material divide, much to the disappointment of the amiably eccentric Ducky (Jon Cryer) who holds a torch for Andie. However, he becomes instrumental in bringing them back together when external pressures threaten their relationship. In 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' (1986) Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) has had enough of his humdrum school life and so, using his immense ingenuity, feigns illness to deceive his parents. He then takes his best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck) and girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) with him to spend a day out in Chicago. After a series of misadventures, he has to make it home before his head teacher finds out the truth or his sister foils his plans. In 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' (1987) stressed executive Neal (Steve Martin) and travelling salesman Del (John Candy) form an uneasy alliance as they are forced to share a hotel room while they wait for the storm that has grounded their flight to subside. As they realise that they are stuck with each other, they come up against a series of unlikely obstacles which continually frustrate their attempts to get home for Thanksgiving. In 'She's Having a Baby' (1988) young newly-wed couple Jake and Kristy Briggs (Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern) face the trials and tribulations of marriage, domestic life and impending parenthood. Finally, in 'Some Kind of Wonderful' (1987) Keith Nelson (Eric Stoltz) has managed to land himself a date with popular girl Amanda Jones (Lea Thompson), but she may be using Keith as a way of getting back at her insensitive rich-kid boyfriend Hardy Jenns (Craig Sheffer). While wrapped up in the confusion of his situation, he fails to notice how his tomboy best friend Watts (Mary Stuart Masterson) really feels about him.More Details
