THE HISTORY OF GRAND PRIX RACING:

From the grease and glamour to the danger and thrills, this is an action packed, fact filled tour of the world of motor racing, featuring in-depth stories on the legends of motor racing, the high-performance machines, the men behind the wheel, and the circuits that have made history. While the same principles will always apply in motor racing some things have changed dramatically over the past 110 years. The circuits, the cars, the race formats, and the technology have evolved from “the horse and cart age” to “the space age”. However, one thing has always remained a constant: the drivers’ and teams’ unrelenting ambition to be the best!

From the origins of motor racing and the UK’s first purpose-built race track at Brooklands, all the way through to the advent of commercial advertising, computer aided technological advancements and the Formula One World Championship that we all know and love today.

FERRARI:

Ferrari is probably the most famous name in racing, but as a marque it only appeared in the 1940s, as Enzo Ferrari, its creator, enjoyed a successful career in motor racing long before he set up his own company. Enzo Ferrari’s history goes back to his association with Alfa Romeo, when he ran their racing team in the 1930s. Post-war, the ambitious Enzo wanted to create his own racing cars and he found a way to finance this by creating and manufacturing expensive sports cars. Eventually, the huge success in both areas led to the growth of the company that has now been an integral part of motor racing for well over 50 years, boasting more Formula One race victories and more Formula One World Champions than any other racing team. To this day, now with a huge global following, Ferrari remains the crowd favourite, and most importantly, the team to beat.

This DVD looks at the famous moments from Ferrari’s illustrious racing history, from Enzo Ferrari’s early career and the origins of team Ferrari, all the way to their recent successes with Michael Schumacher at the helm.

GREAT CIRCUITS:

The Nurburgring:

Tucked away in the Eiffel Mountains in Western Germany is a racing circuit that is longer, more dramatic, and more difficult to master than any other racing circuit in the world – the Nurburgring is famous simply because it is the most challenging circuit ever built!

Silverstone:

Silverstone has always been renowned for its high speeds and is regarded by many as “the track” to do well at; indeed, if you win at Silverstone the world sits up and takes notice.

Monaco:

The Monaco Grand Prix is the most famous race of them all and always provides the driver a tough race around the extremely tight circuit. Now the only “round the houses” circuit left on the Formula One calendar.

AYRTON SENNA:

Ayrton Senna was born into a wealthy Brazilian family. He competed in 161 Grand Prix over ten years. And he took 64 Pole Positions, winning a massive 41 of them. He has been described as being charismatic, single minded, and totally focused, as well as lauded by his peers as “an extraordinary driver, and an extraordinary person”. Aryton Senna was the idol for millions of Formula One fans, one of them being current champion Lewis Hamilton, who lists Senna alongside Alain Prost as his heroes.

In 1981 Senna moved to England with his wife Lilly-Ann, and began racing single-seaters in Europe, winning the British Formula Four 1600 Championship. He followed that up with wins in the British and European F4 2000 Championships in 1982. He moved onto
